Akhilanda, often called Akhilandeshwari, is a fierce and fluid aspect of the Divine Mother in Hindu tradition. Her name means “She Who Is Never Not Broken.” Unlike deities who symbolize perfection or wholeness, Akhilanda embodies the strength of constant dissolution and reinvention—she is always in motion, always transforming, never fixed or complete.

She is often depicted riding a crocodile, an animal that represents our primal fears, especially the fear of being pulled under by life’s chaos, uncertainty, and emotional depths. Yet, Akhilanda does not fight or escape the crocodile—she rides it. This shows her mastery of fear: by surrendering to the currents of destruction and rebirth, she uses uncertainty as her vehicle for power and freedom.

Together, Akhilanda and her crocodile symbolize the paradox of strength through vulnerability: to be shattered and remade again and again, to ride the very forces that threaten to undo us, and to find liberation in the flow of change.
